If you're looking for an activity for your children. Something that will help use up some of that extra energy they seem to have. Something they will enjoy and make them feel good about themselves because they've achieved something. All children like to run, jump, kick, punch and play. You would probably discourage kicking and punching because they shouldn't hurt others and they shouldn't fight. But what if they could do all those things in a safe environment and where it's also taught that they shouldn't fight. Kicking and punching is normally something to be discouraged except when they must defend themselves. The world isn't getting any safer. We teach our children a lot of things. So why not teach them how to protect themselves in an environment that also teaches discipline, attitude, commitment and confidence. In an environment that also instills upon them the importance of modesty, courtesy, integrity, self-control, perseverance and indomitable spirit. Tae Kwon Do teaches them these things and they have fun while learning them. While football, baseball, soccer and dance are all great activities and teach our children unique skills. They don't enforce core principles and morals like they are taught in Tae Kwon Do. As your child progresses they are proud when they tell others what belt level they've achieved and those people will be amazed with what the child has accomplished.

Our granddaughter has persevered for almost four years and earned her black belt in November 2009. Notice I didn't say she was awarded her black belt. She earned it. I forgot to mention that she has achieved black belt and she's only 10 years old. She is continuing her training and hopes to earn first-degree black belt in May 2010. She's a member of the Masters Club, Arrowhead Martial Arts Demo Team and the Xtreme Martial Arts Team (XMA). Recently she's completed a two day, eighteen hour course for instructors. You won't see any 10 year olds taking courses to teach football, soccer or dance. I fully expect that she will be teaching Tae Kwon Do by the time she's 16 and has earned third degree black belt.

As you can see, we are quite proud of our granddaughter's achievements. If you really want to encourage your child to excel at something, I highly recommend Tae Kwon Do training here at Arrowhead Martial Arts. You can start them on a journey that they can continue throughout their lives.

Thank you,
Paul & Ellen Bukovnik

We have two boys, Garek (10) and Zachary (9) Jones who have been attending Arizona Martial Arts Academy for over three years (October 2005). As parents, we highly agree that it has been time and monies well spent towards our children's futures. Our first impression of the Academy was through the Glendale location school windows, both boys would watch wide eyed and walk away begging to attend. At that point in time, their father had already been in Iraq for almost one year and Garek had just been diagnosed with Autism.

Garek had been going through the tedious diagnostic process for the previous four years. We were told that Garek would most likely never socialize normally; he would not read or write his name. He would continually have motor coordination problems particularly with his hands. Extreme light sensitivity limited his outings to early mornings or early evenings and his world evolved around the fantastical world he created through his drawings, dinosaurs, Godzilla and Pokemon.

Of course as parents we were saddened but refused to accept this finality. I surfed the Internet for information and requested an evaluation through Phoenix Childrens Hospital. His diagnosis was narrowed down to HFA/Aspergers Syndrome. Although Garek was a High Functioning Autistic, he was still unable to do many everyday things that you or I take for granted without physical ques or verbal prompting (i.e. routine hygiene- brushing teeth, combing hair or tying shoes, buttoning pants, etc.). Garek also needed medication to help with classic autistic ticks, attention deficits and tuning out the "white noise" that bombards him daily along with training in daily social/lifetime skills.

I sought out an all around physical therapy program that would help to instill his home routine, discipline, self esteem, promote motor coordination as well as exercise his short term memory. For Zach, we wanted positive mental and physical discipline with character building. We found this and more at Arrowhead Martial Arts Academy!

At first I was leery and afraid that he would be emotionally and mentally crushed with all that was expected of him in the Little Dragons class but little brother Zachary is always there for loving support. In the beginning there were many tears and days that he was very down but as time went by the tears diminished, his self esteem grew, his motor coordination greatly improved as well as his short term memory. It is always an emotional high to see that sparkle in Garek's eye when he pushes himself that one step further to accomplish a goal. Both boys delight in telling their father (in Iraq) any and all new happenings at karate. Both Garek and Zach are now in the Black Belt Club and moving forward. Garek's physicians and teachers can't believe the change, growth and accomplishments of Garek. Garek reads, writes, loves the internet and wants to be a Paleontologist. Zachary is a high academic achiever and role model in school as well and wants to be Navy Seal. I am very grateful that the instructors have taken time to help them both excel all around. They love the Academy, students, instructors and especially Master and Mrs.Tippet!

I enrolled my son Jayden at AMAA six weeks ago, hoping to find a good outlet for his energy as well as find a way to instill self esteem and control. As a single mother, it can be difficult for me to play both mom and dad, and the lack of a good male role model was starting to affect my son's behavior. While I had heard good things about martial arts programs, I never expected to see such a difference in my son in this short amount of time.

My son now has a tangible goal to work towards, and has a very visual way of tracking his progress with the stripes and belts. One of the things I love about the program is that every child has to earn their way through the process. They have to do the work; they have to learn the moves, which I believe is setting them up for success when they get to the "real world". This has also taught my son that there will be disappointments in your own performance, but you have to keep working in order to improve.

The instructors at the Surprise location are amazing with the students, using a fantastic balance of encouraging the kids yet challenging them to do better. Mr. Squires and Mr. Tansey in particular have really stood out as wonderful leaders for my son. My son is so excited to come to class each week and is now proud of himself when he learns something new. I have seen a decrease in his behavior problems at home, and an increase in his respect for others. Enrolling him in AMAA is the best thing I could have done for him.
