Master Tippett

Master Tippett was drawn to the martial arts through a life-changing event. At the age of 23, Master Tippett was awoken by loud yelling outside his apartment. When he went outside to see what was going on he witnessed two men fighting over a baby with knives in their hands. When Master Tippett tried to intervene to help the baby, one of the attackers turned and swiped at him with the knife. It was at this time in his life that he realized he could not protect himself or his family. This frightened him into taking action. From this experience he sought out his first instructor who began teaching him the art of Tae Kwon Do.

He continued to improve and test himself against others through numerous tournament competitions. After several successful years of winning tournaments he took his training to the next level. He started training at the same boxing gym as WBA champion Louis Espinoza where he was given personal training tips by Louis, himself. Master Tippett was coached by professional boxer Pat Anderson for 1 1/2 years. During that time he earned the title of PKA AZ State Amateur Heavyweight Champion (1982).

As his passion grew, so did Master Tippett's desire to share his knowledge with others. He started small in country clubs but eventually out grew this venue. On March 8, 1995, he founded Arrowhead Martial Arts Academy in Glendale and has since opened a second location in Surprise. He is a gifted instructor with over 30 years experience and enjoys influencing the minds of his students in the areas of respect, teamwork, perseverance, self-discipline, leadership and knowledge. So much so, that he implemented an innovative character development program that is designed to change the behavior of his students outside the classroom. "Along the way students learn life-lessons about goal setting, wisdom, journaling, mentoring and the awesome power of taking action on ideas," says Master Tippett.

For over 10 years Master Tippett trained under Tae Kwon Do's legendary Grandmaster Hee IL Cho and to this day is heavily influenced by Grandmaster Cho's style. "My respect for Grandmaster Cho is of the highest distinction. He has helped me become the instructor and martial artist that I am today and I thank God for having the honor and opportunity to be called his student."

Master Tippett has enjoyed teaching internationally in England and Ireland where he has made many friendships over the years. Through his tournament experience he also became a certified A.K.A. referee.

Master Tippett is married to Mrs. Lisa Tippett, a 3rd Degree Black Belt; they have six children. Master and Mrs. Tippett are dedicated to teaching the art of Tae Kwon Do in a positive environment that teaches self-defense not only against attackers, but more importantly, against mediocrity, low self-esteem and negative input.
